“Dan has been a strong voice and a lightning bolt of inspiration in the State Senate. He not only lives and leads from his conservative values, he can articulate them with a clarity that changes minds. He has tirelessly worked to keep Texas moving toward less government spending and more freedom for our citizens. He was a prime mover behind the tax cut we recently extended to 40,000 small businesses in Texas. Dan is a man of principle that I am grateful to consider an ally and proud to call my friend.”

Dan's Issues Selected for Further Study

A year before the next session is set to begin each Senator is asked to submit issues the legislature should study during the interim. I submitted a number of issues as did each Senator. Today the Lt Governor, who selects the issues from the long list, released the interim study topics for this year. I was pleased that 12 issues I put forth have been selected for committee study, testimony, and interim work, were selected by the Lt Governor in addition to issues put forth by fellow Senators.

Here is our list.
Health and Human: Study how to better use nurse practitioners

Education: Review the performance and accountability of state's charter schools.
Examine cost drivers in education including state requirements that impact school district budgets.
Study the efficacy of immersion versus dual-language instruction of English as a second language student.
Study the effectiveness of Texas school districts' special education programs.

Higher Education: Study and make recommendations regarding current accountability system and ways to measure student progress, faculty workload, and student advising; and to improve time-to graduate degree.
Examine cost drivers in higher education.

Finance: Study how to increase public participation in setting tax rates ; changing appraisal cap to population plus inflation
Study and make recommendations regarding formula funding and its impact on the cost of attendance and methods of financing higher education institutions.

Criminal Justice: Study DWI statistics and what other states are doing to reduce it.

Intergovernmental Relations: Ensure that there are adequate protections against unfair foreclosures by Home Owner Associations
Study procedures for annexation and county authority in ETJ to be sure communities are protected.

Let's Get Started!

This past Monday was the filing deadline for both Republicans and Democrats who want to run for office in 2010. I did not have anyone file against me from either party. I believe this is a tribute to the strong team we have built in Senate District 7. No Senator has a stronger support group than I do, and no district has a Senator more committed to representing the people of the district than me. We make a great team. I think potential candidates realize that together we are making a difference in our party and in our state. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and prayers. I am honored and blessed to represent you in the Texas Senate.

As we begin 2010 I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a blessed New Year. The past twelve to eighteen months have been a challenge for our nation on many levels. It has also been a challenge for each one of us on a personal level. Whether we have suffered losses in our savings, our businesses, or are still worried about losing our jobs, this is a stressful time for many Americans.

SEN. DAN PATRICK ANNOUNCES FOR RE-ELECTION
Intends to support other candidates who will champion the conservative cause

HOUSTON - August 11th, 2009

Texas State Senator Dan Patrick (R-Houston) offered the following statement today:
“During the past few weeks there has been speculation I might run for, or be appointed to, higher office. My goal is to return to the Texas Senate to continue to fight for the conservative values and principles in which I and many Texans believe.
“Today, I hereby announce my re-election campaign for the Texas Senate. If an opportunity presents itself to serve in the United States Senate, I will seriously consider it at the appropriate time, but my sights are set on the Texas Senate. I feel honored and blessed each day I walk onto the Senate floor to represent my district and my state.
“I am again honored and humbled to have the overwhelming support of the precinct chairs and Party leadership within our senate district.  Four years ago, it was their almost unanimous support that helped me get nearly 70% of the vote with three other well positioned opponents.  Our campaign and election gave the grassroots a voice in the Texas Senate and I’m grateful I can continue to count on their unwavering support.
“Texas and our nation are at a pivotal time in our history.  Our nation is experiencing the worst economic period since the great depression.  I believe for our nation to be strong, Texas must be strong and lead the way.  For Texas to be strong, we must embrace conservative issues. This is not the time, as some in our party would suggest, to move to the middle.  We must elect true conservatives for Governor, Lt Governor, Attorney General, U.S. Senator, Texas Senate, Texas House and other state and local officials.

“This is not a time for the timid or the weak.  I will be neither during this election cycle. I plan to be very active in many campaigns. We must find men and woman who truly believe in the principles and values that made our country great.  Statesmen who have the willingness to fight for those beliefs with the same passion and courage our founding fathers possessed in establishing it."
