Lt. Governor Dan Patrick: Residents & Business Owners in Flood Damaged Counties Can Pay Property Taxes in Installments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, December 18, 2017
(HOUSTON, TX). Lt. Governor Dan Patrick issued a video press release today informing residents and business owners in counties that were damaged by Hurricane Harvey that they are eligible to pay their property taxes in four installments rather than a lump sum.
Patrick has urged counties and other local taxing entities in disaster areas to reappraise property so that property tax payers would not be required to pay the same taxes on their property as they would have paid if it had not been damaged. But some local leaders, including those in Harris County, have refused. While the installment payment alternative will not lower property tax payments, it can provide some cash flow relief for those dealing with the challenges of recovery and rebuilding.
